Where’s My Federal Refund?

The IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool offers accurate and updated information regarding the processing status of your federal refund. Available 24 hours a day/7 days a week and updated every 24 hours, the tool provides refund information within 24 hours after your return is electronically filed with the IRS, or within four weeks after mailing a paper return. It’s even available via the IRS2Go phone app! 

Make sure to have the following information available when using the tool:

  • Social security number or TIN
  • Filing status (Single, Married Filing Jointly, etc.)
  • Exact federal refund amount

Where’s My State Refund?

Each state uses a slightly different system to let taxpayers check their refund status. In general, there are two pieces of information that you will need in order to check on your refund.

The first important information is your Social Security number (SSN). Each State’s website link is available on the left side of this page. To check the status of your State refund, make sure to have the following information handy:

  • Social security number or TIN
  • Mailing address
