From My Kitchen Table To A Nationwide Firm
It started about 27 years ago, when I sat down to handle the income, expenses, and assets for my husband’s small business. I had no idea I was about to fall in love with the work. The more I learned, the more I enjoyed it, and one day our accountant told me something that stuck with me: I was really good at this. That little bit of encouragement reinforced an idea I’d already been quietly turning over in my head.
In 2003, I founded AdminBooks out of our home in the Bay Area. The vision was simple: help small business owners actually understand their numbers so they could make better decisions, both in business and in life. I never wanted to be the kind of accountant who showed up once a year with a tax return. I wanted to be a partner.
For years I dreamed of building a fully remote firm, a team of talented professionals who could serve clients anywhere in the country without anyone needing to commute or push paper. In 2020, that vision finally clicked into place, and we’ve been 100% virtual ever since. Today, AdminBooks is a paperless, cloud-based firm serving small businesses and entrepreneurial professionals across the United States, and I’m grateful every day for the team, the clients, and the journey that got us here.
